- Highest Honor Scholarship ($3,000 for one) and Best Essay Award ($500 for two) continued

The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee extends an invitation to Korean and Korean-American undergraduate and graduate students to compete for the 2015 Korean Honor Scholarship.
This Scholarship was first established in 1981 with a gift of US $1 million dollars donated by the government of the Republic of Korea to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between Korea and the United States. Over the next several years, an additional US$1.75 million was added to the fund by the Korean Government and now the fund totals $2.90 million. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students of Korean heritage to encourage high achievement of academic performance and the development of leadership qualities for their future professional careers.
The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee has awarded 2,963 scholarships to outstanding Korean and Korean-American students over the past 33 years. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be attending college or university in the United States and must have an overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher. In addition to academic achievement, the Scholarship Committee also considers an essay, a letter of recommendation, awards, honors, performances and extracurricular activities when making selections. Approximately 40 scholarships will be awarded this year.
The following dates are important for those interested in applying for the Korean Honor Scholarship
- Application period: April 1 ~ June 22, 2015
- First round evaluation at regional consular offices: June 25 ~ June 30, 2015
- Final round evaluation by Central Selection Committee: July 6 ~ July 10, 2015
- Scholarship Award presentation: September 14 ~ September 21, 2015
The amount of scholarships is same as follows:
- Highest Honor Scholarship: $ 3,000 (1 student)
- Honor Scholarship: $1,000 (40 students or so)
- Best Essay Award - $ 500 in addition to Honor Scholarship (2 students)
Students who are interested in applying for the KHS should refer to the Embassy’s website, http://usa.mofa.go.kr to download the application form and the contest guidelines. Applications also must be submitted to the regional consular office CLOSEST TO his or her HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION. The KHS Committee asks that applicants who need further information or have any inquiries contact the Office of Education Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Washington, D.C. or the regional Consular Offices closest to their college or university.
